Elementary Age Birthdays

Our youngest is in kindergarten so he gets invited to a few cool birthday parties per semester. I say cool because I’m still the parent who meets at the park and utilizes the playground to burn that young energy. Some of his friends are into superheroes and cartoon characters, while others are into video games and role playing. Whatever the theme, we got you covered!

  1. RC Cars – Kids this age love fast things and anything that can do cool tricks and stunts gives it bonus points. My son loves these cars because he can operate it on his own and by the time the battery runs out, he is ready for something new. My son even likes us to chase him with it while he pretends he is the bad guy trying to get away.
  2. Monster Truck toys – Monster Trucks are back on the scene and my kid is an avid collector of the real trucks and the creative trucks. He plays with these in the bathtub, backyard and anywhere in between. He even brings these on road trips, so basically they are versatile and fun no matter how you play.
  3. Monster truck track – For years we have put two Hot Wheels tracks together to simulate a Monster Truck race, but thank goodness we now have this option. Kids love making the trucks flip over and even if they fly off the track, it adds more excitement.
  4. Legos – We are at that crossroads where my youngest can play with Legos, but only if they are already assembled (ie they were his older siblings). Otherwise he still enjoys his Duplo sets. You might bear in mind the Lego box piece total and age range. This was his first Lego set of his own, but I did put away the extra accessories because I found them laying around the house alot. I will give them back as he gets older and can keep up with all of the pieces.
  5. Books – Kids still love books, even if they can’t read. My son loves to read joke books to Guinness World Records. All of my kids love Dr. Seuss books because they are lyrical and become easy readers when they are first learning how to read. My kindergartner reads Hop on Pop with me on the regular. He grabs these two quite regularly for us to read at night.
  6. Light up Shoes – My son and his friends LOVE light-up shoes. You can find any theme to match a kid’s personality but you will delight him with these shoes. He had a pair of red Dinosaur Sketchers that lasted almost the whole school year, until his feet grew. He had these Lightning McQueen shoes before the dinos. My point is that any shoe is cool if it lights up.
  7. Rain boots – You wouldn’t think it, but rain boots are an awesome gift for a boy. My kid wears them to the beach when it’s too cold for flip-flops, to the farm when the pasture has been freshly mowed, and outside after it has snowed or is muddy. They are like the crocs of different seasons. Crocs are great as well! Any kids love crazy styles, so don’t go basic with black or blue, be bold. My youngest loves camo right now but would totally go for dinosaurs or sharks.
  8. Games – A board game is always a big hit for kids. We love playing as a family because even the older kids remember nights playing together when they were younger. It makes for a great time to share snacks and make new memories. Classics like Operation, Hungry Hippos and Candyland are fun, but new ones like Greedy Granny and Shark Bite make my youngest kid die of laughter.
  9. Robots – Kids are being introduced to more STEM related activities to use their growing brains. This toy, as well as puzzles, building blocks and magnetic tiles, open up a world of possibilities. It helps that the robot actually moves and kids love that it was their own creation.
